JC Chronicles - The departure

Flight Tracking

Here you can track the planes I hope to be on.

I mean that will be so early in the morning or even darkest night, so probably no one will be interested anyway, but the Will counts, as they say.

  • From Amsterdam to Copenhagen

  • From Copenhagen to Newark

Luggage

My luggage now includes a 22.1 kg suitcase and a 7.4 kg backpack.
It’s fascinating how you get all your belongings, apart from furniture, into such a small format, which is then, to top it all, so light. 😳

Soon I take my last German dinner to me, remains to hope that the Americans also have delicious food. 😃
From the food on the plane tomorrow I expect at least not too much.

The Netherlands

Journey

We left at just after 11 pm so that we would arrive at Schiphol Airport 5 hours before our scheduled departure, assuming we were very smart doing it this way.
However, as it quickly turned out, it would have been more than sufficient to arrive 2 hours before departure. The baggage check-in of our airline and thus also the admission to the international area was only available from 5 am onwards.
Thus, we waited in the nevertheless very sparsely seated departure hall of the airport 3 hours for the counters to open.

Security check

Also, the security check proved to be ridiculously superficial, the first flight what inner European, but still. More than our passport and the appropriate form for the visa was not necessary and one was within 5 min in the international area.

However, a special search had to be made on my backpack, since I apparently represent a very suspicious person. A conversation followed, in which I could shine with my English knowledge, or so I thought. The executing security guard seamed to have found a few condoms 🤷‍♂️? And asked me whether I go to a deer shooting in the USA.
I was absolutely unprepared for this question, so I replied that I had not planned anything like that 🙈. On his concluding sentence that in America one always has to act safely around his weapon, it came to me, which weapon was meant to shoot at the American deer’s… Well at least the security people had their fun with my naivety 😄.

1st Flight

Airplane wing

Finally, boarding followed and we flew to Copenhagen.

On board, we finally got our first well-deserved coffee.

Coffee

Otherwise, the flight was quiet, with one or two people roaring away after their lost sleep, but it was surprisingly short, as if we had slept through the whole trip.

Copenhagen

The first frightening visa check

Shortly after our arrival we had to change the terminal, but at the change there was now the feared control of our passports. Were all visas correctly missing documents?

First Patrick stepped up to the counter and was sent on after a short time. Now Lisa followed, also no special occurrences.

Well. Who could have guessed, my passport was of course causing problems. The officer scanned my passport for the first, error, for the second, error, a third time… Error. In the process, his initially astonishing friendly controller shifted further and further into the shadows in the back of his office. Then after a violent push, he rolled with my passport through the entire length of it and pulled out a magnifying glass from the most remote drawer there was. A tool for the very special cases!
After a closer look at my passport, he suddenly looked up at me very seriously. The tiredness, which I build up from the preceding trip suddenly was blown away. But he abruptly changed his expression into a smile and let me pass. Great, I thought, It’s already the second time I was fooled on this trip!

It isn’t always a great feeling to be something special, one might figure from this experience. But hey, so far so good, on goes the journey!

The long flight

Now I guess it was time, after someone delivered 2 potted plants to our waiting bench, boarding to Newark began.

Small insertion to the plants. Of course, it is only a plant of the color green, is not sensational at first, but we found it rather unusual that someone was on the move with a vehicle in the waiting area, with which he placed neatly one plant after another, around the waiting passengers. On the other hand, we were at a major international airport, which, as is known, never close, so of course the delivery of the plants must take place in full operation of the facilities. This is what the botany looked like after the placement:

Magnificent!

The entertainment offered on the aircraft was not too bad. Among other things, I finally got around to watching “Baby Driver”, which is absolutely recommendable, if only because of the ingenious soundtrack. It is more than fascinating how perfectly picture and sound are harmonized.

Sadly, I was not able to observe any icebergs from the airplane during our Greenland overflight, but I was able to record the technical data for you.

  • Flight altitude: 11163 m
  • Speed: 822 km/h
  • Outside air: -60 °C
  • Chemtrail production: 100%

Icebergs would have felt comfortable at these temperatures.

But they were probably deterred by the chemtrails.

During the flight we met a lovely woman called Crystal who gave us some great tips for our stay, more on that later.
She also owns a German Shepherd with the rather daunting name Stasi. So you better watch out and follow Stasi on Instagram!

New York, New York!

Finally, we landed safely!
Of course, euphoria was promptly dampened by a huge queue in front of another passport control. 🙈

After spending our first hours in NY once again with bureaucracy, we called ourselves a cab and have now arrived safely at our apartment. 😊
