JC Chronicles - Washington

The White House

A great hotel toilet

Once upon a time, there was a toilet so committed to its job, that it flushed and flushed until all of the freshwater supplies of the continental United States were exhausted. In order to replenish, Trump began a war with our neighbors to the North (Canada). The war moose were too strong. The beavers were powerful. The flow of the maple syrup was deafening.

There were no survivors.

They say that, if you listen closely, you can still hear that brave little toilet flushing away, doing its duty.

The End.

The great walk

Many of the attractions in Washington are within walking distance of our hotel, or so we thought, because between us and our first stop was Fort Myer, which we unfortunately had to spaciously circumvent. After 35 minutes of marching around the fort, we reached the Arlington National Cemetery.
There we visited the grave of J.F.K., who seemed to need quite a few security guards, even in his afterlife. We also climbed to the highest point of the cemetery, Arlington House, from which there was a beautiful view over Washington.

Afterwards we walked past the Lincoln Memorial 🙈, because we had been looking for something to eat at that time. Eventually we ended up in a Subway between the Memorial and the White House. Hence, we came to the decision to visit the White House and the museums first, since the museums already close at 17:30, and we worried to miss visiting them.
At the White House Mariah explained to us that when the flag is hoisted on the White House, the President, leader of the free world and good haircuts 😅, a so-called Donald Trump, is currently inside.

Sadly, after the White House, we were too late for the museums, so we hung out for a bit on the grassy areas that offered views of the Capitol and enjoyed the sun.
After a few minutes, we headed towards the Washington Monument aka “big stick” which, we assume, was currently closed for construction due to Spider-Man’s last adventure.

Washington Monuments

After passing the Stick we came to the National World War II Memorial.
The impressive Memorial is directly adjacent to the Reflecting Pool, which offered a great view of the Lincoln Memorial and from there the Washington Monument.

Howdy! This is Mariah, and I’ll be telling you all about the Lincoln Memorial and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial! As Louis mentioned earlier, we bypassed the Lincoln Memorial to begin with, because we were starving. Our actual visit began at the other end of the reflecting pool (pictured above). There were lots of cute ducks and geese swimming in the water with their babies, so that was cool. When we reached the actual memorial, the reflecting pool was glowing in sunlight; it was absolutely beautiful. The water was so still that the Washington Monument’s reflection appeared undisturbed in it. After taking in that sight, it was time to climb the steps to see Abraham Lincoln’s statue.

There were mixed reviews among the group. Some of us thought that it was smaller than expected, others thought it was bigger. Regardless of which camp we were in, it was magnificent. We even found an elevator and a souvenir shop tucked in the corners of the statue hall.

The elevator led to a history exhibit about the memorial itself. Personally, I am a massive dork when it comes to the American Civil Rights Movement, so the segment about the 1963 March on Washington was of great interest to me. It even mentioned that there was a humble engraving in the stone on which Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Needless to say, I made a beeline for it.

LOUIS PUT THE PICTURE HERE PLEASE THANKS
The famous spot was perfectly aligned with the center of both the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

After that, I convinced the rest of the group to walk to the MLK Memorial (it was only about 15 min away). The memorial was absolutely amazing to say the least. It featured a massive stone statue of MLK surrounded by engravings of his most famous quotes overlooking an inlet of water. I didn’t pass up the opportunity to get photos in front of my favorites (thanks to Louis for being my personal photographer 😘)!

LOUIS PLEASE PUT A CUTE PICTURE OF ME WITH A QUOTE THANK YOU
